What is a hero to you? A hero to me is someone who thinks of others and never gives up. My grandpa, Jim Lee, is my hero. He was born in 1936 in Marshall, Michigan. He was the oldest of three children, and was the only boy. He took care of his little sisters most of the time because his parents were busy on the family farm. My grandpa is my hero because he grew up in a poor family, did well in school, and thought of others first. One reason he’s my hero is because he grew up in a poor family. Jim’s dad owned and worked on a farm all of his life. His mother was simply a stay at home mom. His mom and dad struggled to make ends meet though all of Jim's life and they often put him to work plowing and planting the fields. This resulted in his parents not being able help him with school, so he had to do it all on his own. He got accepted into The University of Michigan and did very well in his undergrad. After undergrad Jim got accepted into dental school at Michigan and continued to excel academically, and later started orthodontic school at Michigan. This is something no one in our family had ever done and was a great accomplishment. Through all of his years in school his parents didn’t and couldn’t help Jim at all, he had to make money on his own to pay for all of the schooling he had to do to become what he wanted.
