In the article “Jimmy Santiago Baca” by The Poetry Foundation the authors explain how Baca mastered Language to survive and to thrive. Baca had the cliche “mastering something that he/she never learned, then proceeds to use their talent for a living, becoming famous for it”, or at least in my opinion it’s cliche, lots of people would disagree with me, but either way, Baca mastered Language after running away from an orphanage after his parents abandoned him, he never got the chance to learn it, so good on him. In addition, he wrote poems for what I’m guessing, a hobby and a living, therefore, he did use his poems for survival.
