In the article” Jimmy Santiago Baca” by the Poetry foundation the authors explain how his mastering language lead him to thrive. To begin with, he didn't know how to read until he went to prison and learned how to read. At first Jimmy was facing survival when his parents abandoned him and his grandmother put him in an orphanage. He escaped the orphanage at the age of 13 and later got arrested by the age around 21. Then, when he was in prison and learned how to write he started to make poetry. He was so in love with writing that he said “ I approach language as if it will contain who I am as a person”. In conclusion, his mastering language brought helped him thrive.
