Richard Branson once said “A passionate belief in your business and personal objectives can make all the difference between success and failure. If you aren’t proud of what you are doing, why should anybody else be?” A belief is something someone can hold onto. People can say a belief easily, but challenging themselves to make that belief is not as easy as you say it is. Therefore, people characterize this quote in everyday life and the character is indicated in the short story. This is shown in Joan Bauer short story “A Letter from the Fringe”, which bring up a character in the story. Dana has seen her friends being bullied by the ICIs for the past year and has done nothing to stop it or helps them in the situation. After school, Dana has been having a hard time to write a letter to the ICIs, but something helps her write which was what her mom said which was “My mom tell me that sometimes people try to control others when too many things are out of control in their own lives” (41). So as you can see that she is realizing the way she can help her friends in a tough situation and that letter would help her and her friends feel better because she writing to the ICIs how they feel about them bullying them. Another thing that helps write the letter was also remembering why she is writing this letter. What’s the purpose of this letter is? Once Dana found the purpose of the letter she started and she says “Turn on my computer begin to put it all down finally. The word just pours out, but I know the letter isn’t for the ICIs and full-scale distribution. It’s for me. And one other person” (43). At first, Dana couldn't write or start the letter she was going to write, but she was inspired because she remembers why she is writing this letter and who the letter was for.
