There were many great and influential composers throughout classical music history. Johann Pachelbel, born in 1653 in Nuremberg, Germany, was a German composer during the Baroque period. Through Pachelbel’s musical composition, as well as his endeavours as a teacher of music, he influenced future generations of composers. Known for his extensive work with the organ, Pachelbel was considered to be one of the greatest organ masters of his generation. Although he passed away in 1706, his music continued to spread and inspire many future works of musical composition.
Before reaching the status that he had achieved as a well respected and adored composer, he first began his studies in the art of music through the teachings of other composers from his location. Heinrich Schwemmer and G.C. Wecker, both teachers of Pachelbel, trained him in the art of musical composition in his early years. Due to his exceptional intelligence, Pachelbel became a scholar student at Gymnasium Poeticum at Regensburg. While attending school in Regensburg, Pachelbel became the apprentice of Kaspar Prentz.

It is here where he had become the deputy organist at St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Four years after taking this position, he moved on to become court organist in Eisenach, a town in Thuringia, Germany. During this time, he had become a close friend with musician Johann Ambrosius Bach, the father of J.S. Bach, which lead to him becoming the mentor for one of Ambrosius Bach’s sons, who then later mentored his younger brother, J.S. Bach. Erfurt became the location of Pachelbel’s next endeavor where he became organist at the Protestant
