Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany, on March 31st, 1685. Bach was a composer and musician of the baroque period. The baroque period was from 1600 to 1750 where Bach’s death marks the end of this period. On this period early baroque composers favored homophonic texture, but by the end of this period, the polyphonic texture was on favor. The characteristics of the baroque music are the unity of mood that usually expresses just one basic mood, for example, if the piece begins joyfully it will remain joyfully throughout. In rhythm, the rhythmic patterns at the beginning of the piece are repeated throughout it. He came into conflict on several occasions with some authorities of the church because they thought that his music was very complicated he was always trying to change the hymns, for fighting with some of his students and they also questioned his meetings with the “strange maiden.” At the age of twenty-three Bach resolved his problems by marrying her and finding a new position at the Church of St. Blaise in Muhlhausen as a church organist, but this was not a good job for him because as the other job he was questioned, his music was complex and he changed the traditional melodic lines, church music is supposed to be just simple.
