John C. Fremont: An Amazing Mountain Man

John C. Fremont, to me, was a very amazing mountain man and I think he was a very brave person. One thing that is cool about him is that he helped produce the scientific map of the American West. He was also a Republican Candidate for the president of the United States. When he was a Republican Candidate he lost the election to democrat, James Buchanan. He was also a mathematics teacher in 1833 and he was an excellent teacher. A few years later he decided he didn’t want to teach anymore. He moved on with his life. After a few days, he made his first important independent survey to the Wind River chain of the Rockies, in 1842. Fremont is that’s he was a leader in going from California, to Mexico, and he served as one of the state’s first senators and he got really rich off the gold rush. After he struck it rich at the gold rush, his money was not used wisely and he wasted it throughout his lifetime. Fremont also caused the suspicions of the Mexican authorities in California. They ordered him to leave. He didn’t leave for the first little bit, but he figured it would be good for him. He was the second lieutenant in the wonderful American Topographical corps. He worked as a surveyor in California. Another interesting fact is that he was one of the four major generals chosen by President Lincoln. Fremont’s major Civil War contribution was very political. I also liked that they even gave him an appropriate nickname because he was a very important person. His nickname was “Pathfinder. “ He was an amazing hero with his family and friends. Fremont spent more energy exploring and doing active stuff in the Country than equipping his learned and trained troops in the field. The military placed him under command and he told them he never wants to receive a new Civil War appointment. At the end of his war he lost his whole fortune and he went on to try and work with a railroad
