Slavery was a cruel period of time during the United States. Slavery in the United States has its origins from back in 1619 AD. During the timeline of slavery, came a guy named John Casor. I am that John Casor.
For me to explain my story, I will have to go back to my homeland back to the continent of Africa. I was a young, lively African-born Negro with a happy family. I was also a man with a lot of ambitions. My main ambition was to go to a new place and establish myself there as a successful landowner. While it was doing this, I went home, ate dinner, and went back to the ship to explore. Suddenly, a man with a skin color I’ve never seen before, appeared in front of me. He was part of the white race that I had heard rumours. Upon inquiring, he said he was here for our natural resources and workers. He said he would make my dreams come true by taking me to “America” and give me land in return for working under him for up to 8 years. At first, I thought he was trying to trick me but I realized that he was serious. I readily took up his offer. He said, “ Great. We can leave in one week.” The next week went by too quickly; a whole day was needed to pack all my stuff into huge bags. With tears in my eyes, I left my family behind and boarded the huge vessel. I waved forever from the ship until I could no longer see my family on the coast. The trip was mostly boring except for a few chats with the other negroes in situations like mine. After 4 rough weeks at sea we reached a place called Virginia. As I heard more and more talk between the other people, I started understanding more English.
