John D. Rockefeller and Walt E. Disney were two of the greatest entrepreneurs of all time. Both of these men created businesses from the ground up and have left their mark on the world. Rockefeller had a net worth of $340 billion (O’Donnell), and Disney only had a net worth of $5 billion (Walt Disney Net Worth). Although these two men both had different fields they both left their lasting mark on the world till this day. Disney and Rockefeller are both household names that everyone knows throughout the world. The two men used similar strategies to create monopolies and exploited the need in the market for a product. Rockefeller used his vast oil company to control the sway of public view. This escalated with him and fellow tycoons Carnegie and JP Morgan to use their wealth to buy voters. This lead to them literally buying McKinley into office in the 1896 election over someone who threatened there monopolies ( Reams). Walt Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club had more members than the boy and girl scouts combined in 1932 (Langer). This lead to dinsey created cartoons that the millions of americans used to watch (Zenger). Knowing this various branches of the government approached Disney and payed him to publish cartoons/ ride in favour of certain military projects or against communism (Langer). John D. Rockefeller’s claim to fame was due to his vast oil industry, also known as ‘Standard Oil’. This company took the oil industry by storm by creating a need that every american would need, oil (Reams). This vastly differs from the lovable face of Walt Disney’s Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse was that lovable mouse that all kids of generations current and past have grown up with, quite a difference from the vast black oil industry. Disney created a face that we would know and love and that when we see it brings back old childhood memories of watching his cartoons.
