In an effort to convince his wife of immigrating to the United States, John Downe writes a persuasive letter in which he employs the use of several different effective rhetorical strategies including hyperbole, tone, diction, and comparison. Downe begins the letter by explaining his current situation in the U.S. As a new-comer, he was warmly greeted by a farmer who offered him a plethora of food choices during dinner.
