Strength: a good or beneficial quality or attribute of a person or thing. Our president John Fitzgerald Kennedy showed America’s true strength by making our country united during the war. John F. Kennedy was born in May 1917 and was raised with his eight other siblings in Brookline Massachusetts. He began to study politics after returning from the navy and became the 35th president of the United States. (“Life of John F. Kennedy”). He ran for two years until he was unfortunately assassinated in November 1963. John F. Kennedy was a revolutionary figure because he fought for international peace by fighting against communism and making America united during the Cold War. John F. “Kennedy warned of the Soviet’s growing arsenal of intercontinental ballistic missiles and pledged to revitalize American nuclear forces” (“The Cold War”). President Kennedy was determined to make sure America was safe and protected. He promised to make the military stronger in order for the nation to defend itself against communism. Although he wanted America to stand strong and help each other, he understood that the majority of the people feared the fact that they would have to go to war. However, he was able to make America come together and help each other during the difficult times. “He urged Americans to critically reexamine Cold War stereotypes and myths and called for a strategy of peace that would make the world safe for diversity” (“The Cold War”). This caused people to not fear the idea of the country going to war but instead help each other throughout it. Everyone was able to become united and fight against communist threat while not fighting in the war itself. For example during the Cuban Missile Crisis, John F. Kennedy notified the public about the nearby missiles and explained that they would enact a naval blockade around Cuba. While many Americans were terrified of the fact that the country would go into a nuclear war, the disaster was avoided due to President Kennedy’s decision. “The following day, the Soviet leader sent a letter proposing that the USSR would dismantle its missiles in Cuba if the Americans removed their missiles installations in Turkey” (Citation from article). Due to President Kennedy agreeing with the offer, the nations both avoided a nuclear war and no damage was done. He believed that with complying with the Soviet leader would cause no one harmed and everyone would be safe. Although he never wanted anyone to be in any harm, Kennedy still wanted to help nations who were under communist threat. He and other American leaders such as Eisenhower created a plan called the Bay of Pigs Plan. “Kennedy had inherited Eisenhower’s CIA campaign to train and equip a guerilla army of Cuban exiles, but he had some doubts about the wisdom of the plan” (CITATION OF ARTICLE). Even though Kennedy had some doubts about the plan, he went along with it to help those under communist threat.
