Compare and Contrast the Inaugural Address Looking at these three different articles you see that they all use fairly diverse style elements to convey feelings of passion and to demonstrate the legacy of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The inaugural address uses style elements such as metaphors, anaphora and archaic diction. Whereas inside Kennedy’s inauguration, 50 years on, Clift takes a different approach and uses elements like visual imagery, quotations direct from people who were close to Kennedy and really appealing to personal experience. All three articles convey the same emotions that Kennedy was a strong and promising man, who really made an impact on the world. In the Inaugural Address, J.F.K uses many different rhetorical style elements to deliver his message that was received worldwide and is still being acknowledged to this day. He begins his speech by using an antithesis statement, “We observe today not a victory of party but a celebration of freedom” (paragraph 1, line 3). By using antithesis you create the feeling of balance between the two contrasting ideas that the writer or speaker is trying to discuss. Between the Inaugural Address and Inside Kennedys Inauguration, they both use some metaphors to help create feeling and emotion. For example J.F.K says “break the bonds of mass misery and casting off the chains of poverty” (paragraph 7 and 8, line 2 and 3). Using metaphors is a good way to sound determined and passionate about what you’re talking about. In Clift’s article she uses the metaphor “frozen in our memories and but in the haze of history” (paragraph 4 line, 2).
