John Foer's View Of Eating Meat

I've become very conflicted with the idea of eating meat. I am also unsure of what Foer's position was on the topic because at first, he would describe the consumption of dog as being inhumane, then completely turn around his perspective and say that eating dog would be beneficial. I believe his purpose was to make his readers feel bad about eating meat while simultaneously thinking of ways eating meat could be a good thing. I have always been a meat lover, my favorite meat being chicken ever since I was little. In my early years of eating meat, I have never once thought about where the meat came from or what had to be done to obtain it. I only thought about eating it because it tasted good. Dogs are still eaten to overcome bad luck in the Philippines; as medicine in China and Korea; to enhance libido in Nigeria and in numerous places, on every continent, because they taste good." I eat chicken because it tastes good so I can't really complain if someone eats dog because they say it tastes good. Most animals on this earth are edible but I can't even imagine what it would be like to eat an animal I consider to be domesticated. Americans keep animals such as dogs and cats as pets where as the people aforementioned use them for food and keep the animals we eat as pets. The concept of eating a dog is repulsive to me. I can't imagine cooking my own dog and eating him for dinner just like the those people often do. I've had my dog for a while and he's become part of my family. Eating your family is wrong on so many levels. As Foer said on page 662 in his essay, "Don't eat companion animals." He also says that dogs aren't kept as companions in all of the places they're eaten and I can understand that. Dogs are kept as pets in America, the UK, Brazil, and in most European countries where as they are eaten just about everywhere
