Picture this scenario, one day you wake up and as you're eating breakfast you turn on the television to watch the news. As you start to pay attention to the news reporter you hear there is breaking news about the city council of your community. The city council has approved to construct a large statue dedicated towards Adolf Hitler or Osama Bin Laden. Since the city you live in is not in its best conditions the council has decided to carry on with this project as it will bring more source of income from the tourist who decides to visit this sculpture.Well in El Paso, Texas that is exactly what happened. A man named John Houser had a vision of twelve large bronze sculpture including Juan de Oñate a Spanish conquistador who potentially brought the entire Spanish culture to the state of New Mexico, through a commemorable way. …show more content…
However, in the documentary of The Last Conquistador, the debate caused a major step back for the completion of the piece.The area's in which the Native Americans had their own very personal memories concerning Oñate. The natives could never forget their ancestors past, Oñate was an evil man who caused great harm to the indigenous people. As the statues nomination was at the peak of its start, the terror of their past relatives still lived on in the hearts of their children. Ultimately the Spanish conquistador was on a genocide hunt towards the Natives as he constantly mistreated them.
