The Treaty of Paris of 1783, which is often considered the greatest recorded victory of American diplomacy, is most attributed to the influence of John Jay. In opposition Ben Franklin, the most senior delegate of the Continental Congress and a significant figure in the early inception of the U.S, Jay was unyielding in his efforts to negotiate a detached treaty with Great Britain that did not include consultations from France.
