For years, rock musicians have mentioned and went over political and social issues in their songs, singles, and albums. They’ve mentioned things like religion, same-sex marriage, LGTB rights, wars, and especially the problems with the government. Recently though, the trend has become less and less customary as rock music as faded back into pop music. But some pop and R&B musicians have begun this trend again in order to educate the millennial generation. During the sixties and early seventies, John Lennon began to commonly express protest and anti-establishment themes in his music. John Lennon devoted an entire album to politics, writing the song ‘Imagine’, which have included lyrics that state one to imagine a world without religion, borders, or property. Also around the sixties, Bob Dylan began writing music that touched upon subjects like racism, which was happening very avidly around 1962. He also assessed poverty, and the evils of war in his albums and songs, such as ‘The Times They Are a-Changin’.’ However in the fifties, the anti-fascist folk-rock legend Woody Guthrie was causing an uproar with the statement written on his guitar, stating ‘THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS.’ He delivered songs such as ‘This Land is Your Land’, touching upon things such as …show more content…
