John Muir devoted most of his time to the preservation of western forests. He petitioned the United States Congress for the National Parks bill that was passed in 1890, which established Yosemite national park. He also publishes two landmark articles on wilderness preservation in Century magazine, "The Treasures of the Yosemite" and "Features of the Proposed Yosemite National Park."
