Get in, Oakhurst, We’re Going to Sandy Bar If you were all-of-a-sudden ostracized from your town with only a horse and a miniscule amount of food to your name, what would you do? Of course, you’d have to find the next, nearest town to reside in, but what if on the road to the town, the weather decided to be cumbersome? Your mind would be taken over by “I wish I hads.” Furthermore, in the old West story The Outcasts of Poker Flat, John Oakhurst and his crew could have survived with one piece of contemporary technology: a flare gun. Over time, flare guns have been used to signal for assistance. A person could be stuck at sea, lost in the jungle, or freezing in a winter storm and have a chance of survival if they had a flare gun. Additionally, individuals of the past would be in utter shock and incredulity if they knew the beneficial technology that has saved so many lives. In order for the flare gun to be in possession of the outcasts, I would insert myself into the story and set the flare gun in front of the cabin’s front door. After discovering the flare gun, Oakhurst and his traveling companions would have to learn how to use the device, but it would not be arduous to understand. After figuring out how to use it, they would be able to get help. Since the crew was not even half-ways to Sandy Bar when they stopped, they would grab the attention from the town they were ousted from. Whether or not someone would come from the town that exiled them would not be something to worry about, because the people would be inquisitive as to what they saw in the sky. Due to the extreme curiosity of Poker Flat’s citizens, Oakhurst and the rest of the outcasts would have been rescued
