In conclusion, John Proctor is recognized as an archetypal tragic hero through many reasons. The characteristics of capacity for suffering, sense of commitment, and the impact had formed John Proctor to be an archetypal modern tragic hero. Proctor's decision causes his own destruction. His adultery causes the hatred of Abigail, which brings the occurrence of false accusation of his wife. John Proctor takes action to resolve, consequently, his decision had led to his death, which is his downfall. His death ends the witchcraft trial in Salem.
