How would you react if you find yourself stuck in a pothole of working for someone like a slave and not getting paid enough? “All great things have violent beginnings” (561 ). In Dubious Battle, by John Steinbeck, he writes about the tough times the migrant workers had to endure throughout their lives. They were expected to survive on very low wage and the owners were getting richer. However, it all started to take a turn when two of few leaders, Mac and Jim, of the Communist Party decided to pitch in with their hard work for the migrant workers. It was a nightmare for everybody, every single person struggling and fighting for something or someone, a strike.

They wanted to fix all the problems the workers were facing because the rich owners had all the controls, even over some sheriffs. The only way they saw to fix these problems was to fight back with a big strike. But to hold a strike, he needed unity among the workers and stick together, which the men were slacking on. It was the toughest task they had to accomplish because the workers just wanted money. Mac was very enthusiastic about the strike plan and he took it further with small steps. He wanted to fight for the workers to have a better pay and a better life, not just for high skilled and favorable workers, but for all. It was hard to get the men to unite for the strike because they needed money and wanted to work but also needed higher wages. Mac and Jim did their best to persuade the workers into strike plan because the temporary pay was not enough for a better living. The men didn’t wanted to give up their jobs and go for a strike but there was no other way to get them together to fight for what they deserve, higher wages for the hard labor they
