She is always isolated from everyone and never allowed to talk to anyone except to her husband, Curley, who neglects her and goes to town for women and booze. The only chance she really ever had to talk to anyone was when Curley was out or not around her, like when the guys left to go to town, she went to the barn where Crooks, Candy and Lennie were at.
