The adrenaline surged through my body as I was waiting for my name to be called out. I started to feel the pressure. It wasn't put on me by others, rather I put it on myself. I wanted to prove myself to my family and all the people who lacked faith in me. We were all in a line waiting for our name to be called out, each person as nervous as the next.

" John Stevens", please make your way to the starting gate" said the announcer. My legs felt like jelly, as I picked up my board and made my way to the starting gate. I put the board down and proceeded to put on my bindings, struggling to do so with my cold and trembling hands. I tightened the binding and waddled my way towards the starting gate.

It was a beautiful day in Vancouver, no wind, very little cloud and a light snow. The track was surrounded by crowds of enthusiastic people each trying to poke their way through the congregation of viewers, trying to get a superior view. I got into my starting position and a series of beeps began to play. Each beep resonated in my head as if I was in a canyon. The final, higher pitched beep sounded, letting me know it was time to get going.

I swiftly slide down the mountain accelerating at a rapid rate. I bent my knees in preparation for my first jump. As I neared the edge of the jump I extended my knees and initiated my rotation. I felt like a bird flying freely in the air. I stopped my rotation and successfully landed on the snow. The crowd screamed in delight. I continue on snowboarding down the mountain to my next jump. As I near the second jump I performed the usual routine by bending and extending my knees. I decided I will be doing a double backflip. I lift of the jump and lean back to commence my backwards rotation. I was spinning backward a little quicker than usual. I completed my first backflip and continued on to my second.
