John from Taylor’s Motorcycles and Sweetgrass causes quite a disruption when he meets Maggie who falls in love with him, but also a lot of discussion between her son Virgil and Uncle Wayne believing different from what John is perceiving himself to be. “Oh my God, it’s my son, isn’t it? He's upset, thinking I’m replacing his father. He’s jealous. Oh my poor boy.” (Taylor 209) The plot twist with John coming into everyone’s life at this time makes it very interesting as it sets the stage for much to come. John becomes very active in trying to persuade Maggie’s religious beliefs and political challenges that she has been facing and is very different from what she had originally wanted. “John’s not what he seems to be. You need to be careful.”
