Johnny’s life before the incident: He was taken in by Greasers and treated with respect, neglected by his family. Johnny’s physical condition: Wide gash from his temple to his cheekbone, his face has been bruised and swollen since when he last jumped. PRESENT Why he did what he did: Out of fear and adrenaline. Previous experiences also had a role to play in this. Self Defense: To protect himself and Ponyboy from harm. Mental Health: Declined when he was held up in the Church. Physical Condition: Suffering from third-degree burns, and his back is broken, leaving him paralyzed. What happened after the incident: He ran away and hid, when returning from Dairy Queen, they saw the Church burning and they saved the kids from the burning building. COUNTERCLAIM: Ponyboy and Johnny didn’t set out to kill anyone. Bob was giving off reckless and drunk behavior. Johnny and his party were outnumbered; they were left to fight multiple ‘Socs’ much larger and bigger than them. Murder is not a crime. HOOK (1) Johnny’s last words were, “Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold.” (pg. 1).
