Everyone was taught to stick up for their siblings, but I bet your siblings have never stuck to you. In the laughable anecdote “Brothers”, by Jon Scieszka, while on a road trip, he and his brothers stuck together, literally. In this low level comedy, Scieszka uses comic situation, a sarcastic tone, and comic diction to reveal a universal truth about how brothers are the guys you stick with and stick up for.

In this anecdote, comic situations leads to the humorous outcome. The family of six boys, a cat, and two parents go on a cross country trip and mid way they stopped to eat lunch, and “...ran around like maniacs...”(248). Running around after you eat isn’t a really good idea. And to make the situation worse, “Somebody dropped their Stuckey’s Pecan Log Roll on the floor.”(248), in which the cat ate. Which led to a chain reaction of puke and that resulted in six barf covered boys rolling around and laughing hysterically in the grass on the side of a road. Ew. The situation is humorous just because a bunch of boys “stuck” to each other in the back of a station wagon.

When he says “And I’m sure my brothers would want me to point out the amazing fact that I am the winner of both...”. It’s funny because he knows that his brothers wouldn’t be as happy as him that he won the competitions. He spoke for his brothers, saying the exact opposite of what they’d really say in a way that we, the audience, know the truth without us knowing his brothers.
