Jonathan Edwards utilizes analogical and causal argumentation to persuade an audience of everyday people who are unconverted, by using this argumentation he hopes to convince some of these people that it is in their best interest to be converted to the Christian faith. The basis of his argumentation is to evoke fear in his audience by claiming that those who do not go to God will have “The wrath of God burn against them” this is analogical reasoning to those who believe their fate lies with the God Edwards is referring to.
Edwards uses causal reasoning to further his persuasion, line 11 uses the word “because” when saying “the reason why they do not go down to hell at each moment, is not because God...is not then very angry with them” he also
