Jose Ortega y Gasset is eminent Spanish philosopher, whose quote “Yo soy yo y mi circunstancia” became the pillar, doctrine of his philosophy- “perspectivism”. This can be interpreted as a person that cannot be perceived without surrounding him historical circumstances. This proclamation raises many questions, and, therefore, is captivating to discuss.
Spanish writer is emphasizing the significance of reality, through which a man as a subject of cognition can be understood. Reality of modern world presumes that there are hundreds of people with their own world outlook who influence one man and his point of view. In the formula “Yo soy yo y mi circunstancia” so-called circumstances constitute an immanent part of natural environment which includes material surroundings, as well as range of one’s beliefs and convictions. One’s ego is being formed as a unity of consciousness and individual “circumstances”. Finally, this unity is the one that predetermines individual’s point of view and unrepeatable “perspective”.
My point of view, however, is a bit different. To me, “Yo soy yo y mi familia”. Family predestines the life of a person, starting from the wealth of the family and ending with the upbringing. Family is most significant part of every person’s life, and caring for members of family is of utmost importance too. To me, children are like diamonds which need to be faceted.
