Journal 4 Gap Inc. Date of Discussion 10.09.14 1. Perform an external factor evaluation of the Gap. What do you think are the most important factors in the external environment The most important external factor concerning The Gap Co. is the fact that their target customers are aging away from the appeal of Gap. Customer preferences are changing and a newer generation is taking over the market place. Although Gap has many different offerings for multiple age groups, they are competing with stores that can offer better discounts and a wider variety of items for sale. Another external consideration would be the green movement focus and international tariffs and trade agreements. Since outsourcing manufacturing processes for fashion is a cheaper option, most of Gaps clothes are made outside of the US. However, this can be problematic with changing trade agreements and labor strikes. The green movement to better package and ship clothing items is also a concern because waste products that are not biodegradable are unfavorable to customers. 2. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Gap Two strengths that the Gap has are their wide assortment and pricing as well as their international presence. The Gap has a large percentage of their stores located outside of the US, which can be a major advantage or disadvantage to the company that is domestically owned. With the changing value of the dollar, Gap could see major revenues in translation in their international markets in Asian and European countries. Gap also appeals to all age ranges with their Old Navy, Banana Republic, and babyGap stores. Their investment in Althleta was a very smart move on their CEOs part because with a shifting interest in physical health, Gap already has a brand that they have made their own to appeal to this crowd. The major weakness for Gap is that they are an old brand. Many of the new customer bases (Y-Gen and Millennials) see the Gap brand as being the brand of their aging parents and are therefore discouraged to buy from their Gap stores. Old Navy appeals to more of the younger generation and does not have a sullied name, which is why it is Gaps most profitable store in their assortment. 3. How would you improve the organizational structure of the Gap I agree with the authors recommendation of a SBU structure rather than a hybrid divisional structure. I feel that if the stores were managed by region, they could better cater to regional desires. Where there are different age demographics and age percentages (e.g. older people rather than younger people) you might want to implement a better style-wise approach instead of infiltrating the market with items that do not appeal to the overwhelming age group of that area. There are also geographic concerns in style to be…

The final journal is finally upon us, and there has been a lot from this class that as really entertained me in many ways. There are many events and discussions that I can reflect on that have benefited me in life, and that I have never had knowledge of before. Even though this may not sound like me, I think that watching and learning about William Shakespeare is one of my favourite…

Sheep Can’t Speak if they Never Think
In the book 1984, George Orwell expresses many lessons and morals he wishes to convey to the audience. One very prominent lesson seen in 1984 is the simple, rebellious action of “question authority”. Orwell consistently displays this lesson by portraying the characters as ignorant, brainwashed and blind. Big Brother, the government in place, possesses an immense amount…
loving and forgiven God he is will forgive and erase everything past, present and future. I have confessed my sins but sometimes I still believed my sin hasn’t been forgiven and that make me feel far away from God.
Like always, doing this theology journal, there are still some questions that I have. Wow God is really this loving? So all it takes for one to build a personal relationship with God all one have to do is confess their sin and acknowledged that they are indeed a sinner? I don't I feel like…
Memories of suffering
Mrs. Nancy Quinn
Sometimes we think we have gone through difficult situations in life without considering that there are other people who have been through worse situations, and they are around us. According to The National Domestic Violence Hotline, 24 people per minute are victims of physical violence by an intimate partner in the United States, 29% women and 10% men. More than 12 million over the course…

When not owning up to something usually people get mad at me because they don't understand why I wouldn't take responsibility for it.When not owning up to things I am not taking responsibility for what I feel. Reduction in HIV/AIDS Cases
Using the goals of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy the CDC is focusing on populations and geographic areas at highest risk to close the gap in newly diagnosed cases of HIV. HIV/AIDS has been on the map for the past thirty years, with recent changes in the face of the disease and many questions as to why this shift has taken place. El-Bassel, Caldeira, Ruglass and Gilbert, (2009) state despite…
Is Google Making Us Stupide?
It is true that the new balance the internet brings causes people to think differently in order to survive (mentally). However, I think that the value of knowing a topic thoroughly is forgotten - While writing a history essay, it is quite simple to look up fifteen facts and have a three-pronged argument for a thesis with analysis based on those pieces of evidence. And yet, if I just pay attention in class, take notes, and know my topic inside…

Choosing a candidate to be the next mayor can be tough. Trying to figure out if the person is the best candidate possible for things you want to see changed in the community. For me Wendy Greuel would be the best candidate to become the next mayor of Los Angeles, because in my eyes she could better relate to the middle class. She attended a public school as well as her child, so she could relate to what the school system…

The company sells a huge variety of clothing from casual to chic for men, women, and children.
The 21st century has brought hard times to this extremely successful company, especially Gap adult stores and the company is losing…
