Juan Seguin: A Texas Hero

If I was to ask you to name any Texas hero, you would automatically say any of these three names: Sam Houston, James Bowie, or Davy Crockett. But what about the heroes who were not in the infamous Battle of the Alamo? Whenever you are done reading this, there will be another name that comes to mind.
October 27, 1806 a baby was born. That baby would grow up to do great things. Fast forward a couple of years. A young Juan Seguin was at school, not learning much because he never really got the education he needed. However, he was always encouraged to do his best in reading and writing by his father, Juan José María Erasmo Seguin. During his childhood, he was pretty interested in music. But that never turned him away from his schoolwork. Fast forward again. Now in college at the age of nineteen, Juan Seguin is married to a young María Gertrudis Flores de Abrego.

While at the Alamo, Seguin was sent as a courier to send a message for help and possibly reinforcements even though he wanted to stay, escaping the slaughter that was The Battle of the Alamo. When Juan came back, he saw the aftermath of the battle, then respectfully buried his fallen comrades that had died just a day before, including the renowned Davy Crockett, by himself. Then came The Battle of San Jacinto where Sam Houston and Juan Seguin led the troops in battle. The whole entire Texas army shouted, “Remember the Alamo!”, and, “Remember Goliad!”. The battle was won by Texas in under 18 minutes with low casualties.. Juan Seguin resigned from the army in 1840. Seguin was finally at home with his wife and ten children with no worries.
