Judging People Revealed In The Minister's Black Veil

Have you ever been judged based off of what you wear? First impression is everything this day in age, whether you’re going to a job interview, or just going grocery shopping at your local market. Just like the community in the story “”The Minister’s Black Veil”, the people in the community judged others because of what others wore. Mr.Hooper, the minister of the church in the town where the story takes place, suddenly decided to start wearing a black veil over his face. Because everyone around him weren't necessarily used to people wearing black veils everyday, especially covering their face, people assumed and judged. They came up with their own thoughts about Mr.Hooper, without knowing his reason as to why he was wearing the veil.
The overall meaning of “The Minister’s Black Veil”, is one that has to do with not judging people based on their looks. Because we all tend to make thoughts in our mind about others if we see something that’s “different”, we cause internal conflicts between ourselves and others.

Though his fiance tried to be understanding at first, she ended up leaving him because of the black veil. In the text, the author writes; This is an important part of the dialogue between Mr.Hooper and his fiance because it shows that even a woman who planned to marry the man she loved changed her mind based primarily on appearance. She was willing to leave him because she did not clearly understand or like Mr.Hooper’s reasoning. That is the problem that we face in today’s society, that when we do not fully understand others easily or agree, we choose not to try and reject what we do not
