In the story, Call Me Maria by Judith Ortiz Cofer, the main character Maria, finally feels like she is home, in New York City, with her father. When Maria and her dad moved to USA from Puerto Rico, it was not her home. She wanted her mom to live with her, but when Mami came, she said that she is going to live with a different man in Puerto Rico. Her mom is making her own future with her husband, maybe even without her. Maria wants and education and she loves her dad and she doesn't want to leave him. When Maria shows her mother the little room that she has, she wants her to understand that it is hers. She also wants her mom to understand that she lives in it and maybe she will stay there and not go with her to Puerto Rico.
