Judy Buenoano, also known as Black Widow, grew up in a unstable home. In her early life Judy’s mother died from tuberculosis, when she was only four years old. She and her younger brother, Robert, were forced to live with their grandparents. Once Judy’s father remarried, the two children went back to their father and new stepmother in New Mexico. Judy claims that her father and stepmother abused and starved her, and made her work as their own slave. When she was fourteen, Judy was sent to prison for two months because she had attacked her father, stepmother, and two stepbrothers. Once she was released, she then went to reform school, graduated in 1960, and became a nursing assistant. One year later she gave birth to her son, Michael. Then in 1985, she was convicted for the murder of James Goodyear. Judy Buenoano was sentenced to twelve years for the Gentry case, a life sentence for the Michael Goodyear case, and the death sentence for the James Goodyear case. Judy was also convicted for multiple counts of grand theft and acts of arson for gaining insurance money. Buenoano was suspected to be connected to other murders in Alabama and her boyfriend, Gerald Dossett. Judy’s last appeal was denied, and she was sentenced to death. She was housed at Broward Correctional Center at Pembroke Pines in Florida. A few days before her execution, she was on television and proclaimed, "I would like to clear the record for my grandson; I would like for him to know that his grandmother was not a murderer." She spent her last days at Strake, where in her last hours she said goodbye to her adult children and other relatives.
