In today’s society we are advancing in technology rather quickly than what was expected, and everyone is all for it. New phones, T.V.’s, and transportations are developing and selling out to the world of new technologies. However, we have read about some of these types of inventions in Jules Verne’s novels and short stories. Verne has composed plenty of books that involved nonexistent technologies that would take place in the future. For example, in the book In The Year 2889 Verne wrote about one of the many technologies we have today, the newscast. “Instead of being printed, the Earth Chronicle is every daybreak spoken to subscribers, who, from interesting conversations with reporters, statesmen and scientists, learn the news of the day” …show more content…
Because travel had such an important impact in his life, he never wanted to walk away from it either. Those who travel can greatly relate as it brings a type of sensation that no one can explain, though Verne was able to explicate his feelings to his readers by using unique characters to communicate his love for travel overseas. Not only did he write about his passion for traveling, but he also stated how he believes travel affected one’s life. “Travel enables us to enrich our lives with new experiences, to enjoy and to be educated, to learn respect for foreign cultures, to establish friendships, and above all to contribute to international cooperation and peace throughout the world” (Verne). Verne describes all the aspects in which travel affects us, making him realize there is so much more than what he saw in his city. In terms of Verne’s ability to write cogently about different places, his words of “travel enables us to enrich our lives” shows how Verne was always looking for ideas in terms of bringing new perspectives to his works. As one reads Verne’s work, it is quite apparent that he uses his experiences of “place watching” and “people watching” to add depth to his stories. The places Verne describes are quite lifelike, because, as one may surmise, he uses all of his experiences to build fantastical settings that are actually based upon a reality that few would experience. …show more content…
He used a blend of science and machinery in his writings that made us view the world differently, making us see how those were ways to evolve in the world; by using his knowledge of machinery and scientific aspects in his writings. “ Verne had retained all the technical and scientific material he needed to create his first major literary success” (Loveday). Verne had the opportunity to begin deeper research on both science and machines which was increasing his knowledge on both things. By doing so he was able to write more accurate and truthful novels about the topics that he enjoyed to compose. If he were to write about incorrect and false information about his topics, then he would not be greatly favored as he is now. He would have still been trying to be published with information that does not fit his topics, which meant we would not know of his great works today because it would not be reasonable to publish one’s works that does not have the correct information that is being included with his writings. Verne doing his research on both topics made him realize much more than what he expected to learn. He learned many more ways in which science worked in the world that we revolve around and also he learned the varied factors in which machinery is a part of.
