There’s nothing better than a tragic, heart wrenching, and twisted romance. That’s definitely what happens with Julia and Winston in 1984. They discover that the idea of love (and rebellion) is fantastic, but if one rushes into it, it could just be the idea of love that keeps them alive. Their journey of love is as confusing as a cat when trying to catch a flashlight beam. In the beginning, Winston has a deep hatred toward Julia. He thinks of Julia as a spy sent to observe him and send him to the Thought Police. But soon, that hatred turns to love after Julia reveals that she, in fact, loves Winston. She just wants to rebel, taking down the party because it is the “wrong thing to do” and the “idea” of it is fun. Just like the idea of being in love is fun. Julia likes to dream about things, to go against the world; even when she doesn’t have a valid reason. Seeing these examples from 1984 and reviewing the differences of the thoughts Winston and Julia have leaves a question in mind. Are they really in love? Their world view is completely different! That doesn’t stop Winston and Julia. They’re continuous belief that they are in love keeps them alive. Again, they love the idea of being in love and that they both want to rebel. That idea overtakes their relationship. They don’t want to let go of that idea. They also believe that their love is real because they’ve never before felt the feeling they have with each other. But even though they both feel something, it doesn’t mean it’s love. It’s the excitement that they fall in love with. This is relevant to real life because Orwell is saying that we shouldn’t force ourselves to believe that the love we’re feeling is true love. We must realize that we might be too excited to see our true feelings. The Lord knows our real feelings and he knows how
