ShakeSpeare uses supernatural events to foreshadow events to come, to accentuate their importance, and at times to set the atmosphere. You see the first use of supernatural events in the beginning where “a storm that drops fire.” happens. At this point you have heard of Cassius trying to tell Brutus that Caesar should be killed, and this supernatural event, pretty much confirms what is suspicioned, something bad is going to happen. And the inhabitants of Rome think the same “Either there are wars in heaven, or else the world, too insolent toward the gods, provokes them to send destruction.” See Shakespeare not only gives the idea to the reader, but they also influence the characters, and their actions, in the play. Now to be honest, I have no idea what shakespeare was trying to get at with this variety of craziness, but one thing I did get out of it, was that things are about to get crazy. The next time that supernatural events are used, is when
Caesar is deciding whether or not to go to the capital. Now this part isn’t quite super natural, but you could call it a vision. Calpurnia has nightmares and calls out “Help, someone! They’re murdering Caesar!”. And a few more events. So here is the first definitive foreshadow, from a supernatural event. The Author uses this to create suspense, and anxiety. It also frightens Calpurnia, which almost keeps Caesar from getting assassinated. There is another part, again not quite what you might say a supernatural event, but Brutus takes it as such, which makes me believe it is shakespeare's way of saying it is. Brutus starts talking about “mighty eagles” eating from their hands, this is probably a sign that they are well off, that they will be prosperous. But then Brutus says that recently the eagles flew away, and “crows,
