At the end of one practice, coach had one other freshman flyer and I stay after to talk to us. Little did I know, she would be asking if we would consider joining the competition team. I had never tried out in the beginning of the season, being scared to stunt as a flyer. I felt highly regarded to be asked to join, but at the same time still not completely confident with becoming a flyer and being tossed up and into the air. We both let her know we would think about it and started heading home. Being on the competitive squad and actually performing as a freshman is a rarity. After a lot of time, thought, and other opinions I decided to go for it and join the squad. Although when I joined I knew I had a good chance of not even being able to perform and just be an alternate, I still went for it and decided before hand that I would give it my all. The “comp” practices had the greatest effect on me. They were longer, and contained much more difficult stunts that I had never imagined myself being able to do.
