An outlaw agrees to escort three nuns to California, but they are pursued by banditos, who believe they have hidden money.

BRIEF SYNOPSIS:

BEAU, a defiant man, who doesn’t believe in God, attempts to rob a bank, but instead is arrested and ends up in jail. In jail, he teams up with a Piute Indian, HERMANN. They break out.

In a small town, west of the Mississippi, three nuns, SOPHIA (30’s), PAULINE, and ALVA are looking for someone to escort them to California. Sophie carries a box.

President JAMES K. POLK meets with JURY (50) and THE KID (20’s). He gives each a US Marshal’s badge and a brown envelope. He instructs them to get the letter delivered to Lt. FREMONT, who’s out in California. He also gives them a strongbox. It’s filled with coins. He tells them that

Jury and The Kid arrive in town with the letter and money. The Kid challenges Hermann, but loses. Hermann’s arrow sails through the air flawlessly. It doesn’t seem humanly possible.

Jury and the Kid stash the money in water barrels. Sophie approaches Beau about escorting them, but he refuses. Hermann says that a bandito named PEPPER is out there with an army and the women don’t stand a chance without help.

Jury gets a wagon ready with supplies. Sophia blackmails Beau into escorting them. She saw his “most wanted” poster. Beau and Hermann finally agree to escort the nuns. They head out west. They stumble upon a burned out mission. Beau senses they are being watched. Hermann find rocks that he believes are from outer space; they are meteorites.

Beau is dumbfounded when he learns that Sophia is taking grapevines to California. That’s what in her box. Hermann and Pauline grow close.

When Alva is abducted by Indian Braves, Beau rescues her and gets unlikely help from The Kid and Jury. Alva decides she wants to rebuild the mission. Hermann takes Alva and Pauline back. Herman learns the women are not really
