Justice Themes In The Film 'The Harvest'

In my judgment, the documentary film “The Harvest” is a very strong educated film that exposes the audience to many main justice themes. For example, one justice theme is equality of pay. These migrant workers are picking crops in the broiling hot sun with temperatures reaching up to 108 degrees in some states and they are not even guaranteed the minimum wage. These workers feed half of America and sometimes they don’t even have enough money to purchase food for themselves or even have a meal a day. Furthermore, another justice theme is the conditions they face while harvesting these crops. These workers are in such a rush to pick as much product as they can because ranchers pay them depending on how much of the produce they pick. While being rushed and in severe heat conditions this usually leads up to them fainting during work or worst case scenario possible leading up to death. This is explains how poverty puts people at many risk creating a poorer health, shorter life span and a greater exposure to crime. In addition it also explains, that everyone is supposed to have an equal opportunity to strengthen the government and to have free equal rights. Throughout the film there are various of scenes where it shows the living conditions these migrant families live and all having signs to living a life under poverty. Poor health conditions is also a major issue and it is displayed in the film as well. We can see this when Perla’s mother and father are having problems with their health. Perla’s father is having back problems, while for Perla’s mother she has problems with her hand and is unable to sometimes pick the crops.
