The case I have chosen to discuss is Kansas v. Hendricks, 521 U.S. 346 (1997). The issue presented to the United States Supreme Court was regarding the civil commitment of Leroy Hendricks, who had been deemed a sexual predator by Sedgwick District Court in Kansas.

In September 1994, Hendricks was scheduled to be released after serving approximately ten years for two counts of of indecent liberties with a child. This was not the first time Hendricks had been incarcerated for sexual abuse charges, and had in fact spent more than half his life in prison for such offenses.
