Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr. More known as Kareem Abdul Jabbar was born on April 16, 1947 in New York, New York. Growing up Kareem was always the tallest kid in his class. Kareem started playing basketball at a very young age. In high school he set New York city records in scoring and rebounds. In 1965 Kareem enrolled at UCLA collage, where he played basketball and became the school's best ball player. With John Wooden as his coach, Kareem lead the college team to three national championships. In the second year of the Milwaukie Bucks being in the league, Kareem was drafted with the first overall pick in the NBA drafts in 1969. Jabbar was named Rookie of the Year and was second in the league in scoring and third in rebounds. Jabbar lead the Bucks to the finals once again where they unfortunately lost to the Bostic Celtics in 1974. Although Jabbar had many successes as a Buck he did not seem to be happy off the court in Milwaukie. Jabbar demanded that he would be traded by the bucks to another team. With all of these record breaking stats, Jabbar retired from playing basketball in 1989. After this retirement, Kareem was in several movies two of which are the movies Game of Death (a martial arts film) and the comedy called Airplane. Although the basketball legend did not get away from the sport he loved most, in December 2009 Kareem was diagnosed with a rare type leukemia. This was a rare cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Though, in February of 2011, the doctors declared that Jabbar was cancer free. In conclusion, Kareem Abdul Jabbar was someone who started off playing basketball at a very young age and retired in 1989 with record breaking statistics and six championship rings. Jabbar was known as a very skilled athlete and will always be known as a basketball
