“They just keep shooting us down.” May 4 1970, Twenty-eight Ohio National Guardsmen shot into a crowd of college student protesting against Kent State University. Thirteen seconds and sixty-seven rounds later four students lay on the ground dead and nine students with non fatal injuries. In Kent,Ohio at Kent State University students protested the cambodia campaign which president Nixon announced on April 30. Not only did the Kent state shooting affect the 1970’s, it affected the United States to present day.
According to “Kent State Shooting”(novaonline) on thursday, April 30th President Nixon announced the invasion of cambodia. Friday, May 1st students gathered together and formed a demonstration protesting against the invasion that President Nixon declared on cambodia. Conflict broke out that evening between the protesters and the law enforcement, ending in vandalism of public property of Kent, Ohio. Police enforcement closed all the bars and pushed back the protesters with force and use of tear gas.

The effect the Kent state shooting had on present day USA was not very substantial. The shooting helped pass the voting age law to lower the age from 21 to 18 to give college students a chance to have a say in who will fill government positions.
