Two Times Oscar Winner Kevin Spacey’s awards to be revoked
Kevin Spacey is in the news again but for all the wrong reasons. Kevin Spacey has been accused by Anthony Rapp of sexually harassing him at a party when Rapp was 14 years old.
In an interview with BuzzFeed, actor Anthony Rapp said Spacey befriended him while they both performed on Broadway shows. Rapp was 14 when he attended a party at Spacey’s apartment in 1986, he said. At the end of the night, an inebriated Spacey picked him up, placed him on his bed, and climbed on top of him, Rapp said. On the work front, Netflix decided to pull plug on the famous TV show starring Kevin Spacey, House of Cards, with immediate effect. A spokesperson from Netflix said that the sixth season will be its last.
Kevin Spacey’s International Emmy award has also been revoked following sexual harassment charges. The two-time Oscar-winning actor was due to receive the 2017 International Emmy Founders Award in New York next month.
The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences released a statement saying that “in light of recent events” it will be withdrawing Spacey's honor.
Spacey has also been accused of using his orientation to come out of the harassment charges. It seems, his PR team decided that if the star became one of the first Hollywood’s A-listers to “come out” as gay, it would divert attention from the real story. But in Spacey’s case, the gamble has backfired. There has rightly been a furious response from the gay community at the way he has come out, and at how he has managed to combine the idea of being gay with that of under-age
