The Keystone XL Pipeline was a proposed extension to the Keystone Pipeline which is a pipeline system that carries oil from Canada to different states in America. When the idea was brought forth the republicans saw it as an opportunity to improve the American economy by creating jobs and as an opportunity to bring more clean energy into America. Despite this the pipeline soon faced a lot of opposition from several environmental activist groups who saw a potential threat to the climate. They also faced opposition from many indigenous communities whose lives would be directly affected by the construction of the pipeline. In this case the republicans are willfully wrong because they know there will be consequences to their agenda if they don’t. An obvious reason why is because of money. They argue that the construction of this pipeline would have a lot of economic benefits and it seems that they are scared to lose their money. Admitting to their mistakes would not just cost them money now, but in the future as well. Another theory I have is that the reason republicans are willfully wrong with this issue is because a majority of the people who are in support of the pipeline not being built are liberals. Most of the people on the left have something to say about environmental issues and this pipeline is no exception. They present many arguments made by environmental activists and speak for the indigenous communities who are against the pipeline and I think this drives the republicans crazy. The republicans have already lost the last 2 elections and Obama has been able to pass some bills that they were against and to them, if Obama were to reject this proposal it would humiliate them. This is the main reason I think that the republicans are being irrational is because if they admit that the liberals are right then it will be super embarrassing for them and may affect their credibility in the
