Children with disadvantages in life have hard times getting through school. Whether it is a rough beginning in their life or an impairment such as the inability to see or hear, these children need more support than others. This help all comes down to how they are taught. “The Story of My Life”, an autobiography by Helen Keller and “Kids Need Structure”, a TED Talk by Colin Powell show different but positive methods to better educate children. Both also show the importance of starting a child’s education as soon as possible.
Children with disadvantages have a difficult time navigating through their education. As mentioned in “The Story of My Life”, Helen Keller was not able to do many things due to the fact she became blind and deaf at an early age, as supported by, “At the beginning I was only a little mass of possibilities”(4) and “… , nor has she ceased trying in thought and action to make my life sweet and useful.”(4) These quotes support Helen Keller’s disadvantage since both show she wanted to do great things in life, but prior to the needed support, was unable to.
