Herod’s death was critical data used to establish the birth and death of Jesus. According to Solomon Zeitlin, the book of Matthew records the reign of King Herod during Jesus’s birth. Messengers were sent to Bethlehem by King Herod to search and siege the infant. When the infant could not be found, Herod ordered the death of all infants born in Bethlehem within the last two years. Thirty-four years Herod reigned, and Josephus stated shortly before his death there was an eclipse of the moon. The eclipse occurred on March 13, 750AUC, 4 BCE.
