King Peggy, by Peggielene Bartels and Eleanor Herman, is about how a female secretary from America became the king of a small town called Otuam. The changes she made were for the proper development of the Otuam town. The ambassador that Peggy worked with in America told be Peggy she would be a good king and he was right. Peggy made a good king because of several reasons. The first reason why Peggy made a good king is that she was willing to make sacrifices. She had to give up her free will, and she had to watch everything she did. She couldn’t eat in public, dance in club, and joke or argue in public. Peggy wasn’t the one to take nonsense from any one if someone disrespect her she would argue with them. Another sacrifice she made was her privacy her families believe their supposed to be as close to Peggy as they can, for example Auntie Esi said to Peggy “We will be sleeping with you. Just as a pride of lions sleeps surrounding its leader, as a king you must have attendants in your room at all times.” Peggy didn’t like the idea of having people sleeping in her room. A next sacrifice she gave up is her sleep. On her first night sleep in Otuam “Peggy was awakened a four a.m. by roosters right under her window shrieking cocka-doodle-doo”. Peggy asked about the health care situation. There wasn’t any clinic in Otuam but there is one not too far. That is where the sick people have to go. Sick people had to walk miles just to go the clinic. King Peggy realized that there was no doctor present at the clinic, and majority of the babies were delivered by midwives. The risks of people dying as a result of improper healthcare disgruntled the King, and actions were taken place to restore health treatment entirely. King Peggy sought refuge to set in place a more appropriate caregiving facility in order for the Otuam citizens could have a greater chance of getting treated
