My topic is the King Phillips war. My thesis is; The king Phillips war was the deadliest war in the history of European settlement in North America and although the natives started the war, it was the Englishmen’s fault. I will be writing a paper on it. I will use Edward Randolph and John Easton as primary sources. I like to use Randolph because he supports my argument by stating the English have mistreated the natives. He was a puritan that had many theories on why the war started and it seems like he was beginning to understand it was the Puritans fault. I am choosing John Easton as a primary source because he documented a direct quote from King Phillip about his complaints which included: the steady loss of Wampanoag land to the Europeans, the English colonists growing herds of cattle and their destruction of Indian crops, and the unequal justice the natives received in the English …show more content…
This being why he had reason to fight back against the English, which supports my argument. I will also use Increase Mather as a primary source. His recall of the war is different than the other primary sources because he recalls the English did nothing wrong and were fighting a defensive war and were assaulted by the natives for no reason. And with the evidence I get from my primary and secondary sources I hope to disprove him. For my secondary sources, I will use Abbot, Irving, and Burke. I chose Abbots, History of King Philip, Sovereign Chief of the Wampanoag’s: Including the Early History of the Settlers of New England, because he is against my argument.
