Kipps Monologue

As the lights come up on act two we open on an office look filling part of the stage, similar to what we have seen before, but the sunlight is less prominent from the windows as it is almost setting throughout the scene. As Kipps leaves with Spider the light from the window fades completely as the sun sets and are left with just the light in the office and then bright sunlight washes the other side of the stage as we redirect our focus to Kipps. When entering the house Kipps is met with nothing but a little sunlight coming through the window, but as he lights a fire in the fireplace the warm glow washes that portion of the stage and more light shines through the window as he opens the blinds. As he moves from room to room the white light from the window fades and comes up in a different window until he returns to his bed room and we return to the original look. As Kipps makes his second journey around the house the light from the windows changes again as it did before, but this time as Kipps makes his way towards the closed door there is an ominous light illuminating it from the top and as Kipps bangs on the door the rest of the lights on stage slowly fade until it is only the ominous light left. Eventually when he give up and the Actor begins speaking, the light fades and with his words cool light from the window returns. The light from the window dims as Kipps works and as the voice over begins warm light comes in from the top as we separate from Kipps working and delve into the letters. When the letters are over the warm light disappears and as the sound starts the light matches its pattern, dimly flashing along to it. As Kipps moves outside the light from the window disappears completely and the warm top light stop flickering and becomes more isolated around Kipps. As the sound of the vehicle gets closer we get a flash of light as it crashes. As the sound of the thumping returns the top light follows its pattern as it slowly fades. By the time Kipps enters the house the ominous top light over the door has returned and the rest of the light on stage had faded completely and as Kipps approaches the door as soft pool of white top light comes up over the rocking chair. As Kipps explores the nursery a white light fills from the side like moonlight from a window and the light on the rocking chair fades. As he exits the nursery and goes back to the main room the light shifts and a dim beam of moonlight is coming from a different window. Kipps turns on the light and warm white light fills the area around him and goes out suddenly as Kipps goes into his panic about The Woman. The
