Redemption takes on heavy burden on someone because sin can be such an unending action and can easily fall into the trap. In The Kite Runner, Hosseini the author unravels the concept that redemption is the choice the person wants to take or not. When the person does not take into consideration redemption, the guilt will grow stronger with time. The protagonist in the story Amir, longs for redemption and honor through every mistake he made but seem to still feel the guilt in him. Until, in his adulthood he realizes that in order to obtain redemption and honor, he has to go through the pain of sacrifice. Yet, everyone has different views on the word honor. As Barbara Tuchman once quoted, “Honor wears different coats to different eyes.” Everyone has flaws even an honorable person, perfect cannot exist in human. Like every character in The Kite Runner has their own flaws but can be at different levels of honor. In addition, opinions on what and how one can be or have honor. The main person that Amir’s sees that has great honor is in his father through many deeds he did for his country and community. As Hosseini writes, “Baba and Rahim Khan built a wildly successful carpet-exporting businesses, two pharmacies and a restaurant” (15). Baba represents a hard working, persistent, moral and thoughtful person on the outside, that is why everyone sees him as an honorable person. Nonetheless, it seems that Amir did not inherit the trait of honor from his father during his childhood years. For instance, the time he planted his new watch and money under Hassan’s mattress and accusing Hassan of taking it. Amir did not have the courage to stand up for what was right as he said, “I would have to explain and I would be revealed for what I really was. Baba would never, ever forgive me.
