“The Knapp Commission investigated corruption in the New York City Police Department, held public hearings, and submitted a report to Mayor John V. Lindsay on December 26, 1972” (Liddick, 1999). The Knapp Commission was a board of members appointed by the mayor in 1970. It consisted of 5 members to investigate the allegations that were being made about the New York City Police Department. A few officers were tired of all the corruption going on within their department and when they reported the incidents, nothing was done about. So the officers went to the newspaper and let them know what was going on and the information was made public. All the allegations of corruption within the department is what led to the Knapp Commission.
